'Ori Tahiti World Cup

Matani KAINUKU and Nonahere cultural association organize the 3rd édition of the Heiva International in 2020, from march 28th to April 5th 2020.
This is the rules for the ‘ORI TAHITI WORLD CUP 2020 at To’ata from April 3rd to April 4th 2020, the compétition of tahitian dance with the best of the best of ‘ori tahiti in the world : soloist dancer, soloist musician, costum designer and dance group. The main goal of the Heiva International is to promote the Polynesian languages.
To qualify dancers and groups for the next edition in 2020 at To’ata, here are the dates of all the trials in the
world :
- France, City of Union-Toulouse from July 23rd to 28th 2019,
- Chile : from April 08th to 16th 2019, at the city of Santiago-Chile,
- Mexico : from may 27th to June 3rd, at Mexico City,
- USA : West Coast from August 3rd to 8th, 2019, City of Los Angeles,
- USA : East Coast from October 31st to November 04th, City of Orlando,
- Japan : from February 18th to 23rd, 2020, City of Tokyo, Yokohama.
1/ Each Group represent one région, one association, one country and must offer a polynésien theme from French Polynésia : one idea, one concept, one legend, one myth, one history event… One country can be représented by several groups. Its possible to open a school category from 3 group registrated.
2/ For the ‘OTWC, each soloist must have won and be scored for one podium (1st place, 2d place, 3rd place) of one competition of ‘ori tahiti. One dancer must be part of only one delegation, one country.
3/ Soloist musician must be part of one country and one delegation. He/she will play with drums on live only and must express a theme of his choice.
Rules of the competition ‘OTWC 2020
Article 1 : Registration
Each ‘ori tahiti dance group which head offifice is located in and outside of French Polynesia, lawfully constituted and registered in its country of origin, may enter the contest in one of the category : group, mehura, soloist dancer, soloist musician, costum designer.
Registrations are made by sending a regular or electronic mail to tematani@hotmail.fr OR on website : www.heivainternational.com
To successfully register, a group must provide the following documents at the time of registration :
- the entry form duly fifilled out;
- a brief presentation of the group and when possible, the record of its achievements;
- the nominative list of all members of the group entering the contest (fifirst and last names, gender,
date and place of birth) and their position (musician, dancer, etc.) along with a valid copy of the ID
of each group member.
No limit of Tahitian artist inside foreign groups, each must accept to represent one country.
Article 2 : Age of artists in each category
Group category ( 30 to 60 max) : each dancer must be 15 years old and more.
Mehura category (21 to 40 + 8 musicians/singers max) : from 15 yld to up.
Dance soloist category : dancers must register and sign their document, and by one of the parent if
they are under 18 years old (taure’a category - 16 and 17 years old). Each dancer must register
one formular.
Categories : Costume designer, Musician, ’Orero et Raatira : minimum of age : 18 years old.
Article 3 : Registration and fee
To pay up the registration fees amounting to the following document when entering one of the categories which details are as follows. Please check the deadlines.

Registration form will be booked at the time of payment.
Article 4 : One theme
Each category must present one theme, written (one title, one sentence, one texte…) registrated in the Culture of French Polynesia. The theme must be written on the registration form.
Article 5 : Language
Each text must use Reo mā’ohi (one of the Polynesian dialect of French Polynesia) and French language/English/Spanish or else. Judges will check the link between the text and the performance (dance, music, costum, ‘orero, …).
Article 6 : Program
Program of the competition day will be written by the organizer by the March 1st 2020 and after close registration.

The total of duration of each performance is as follows :

Article 8 : Jury
The jury is made up of a president and three (3) or more members, appointed by Matani KAINUKU. Its composition may be modifified depending on the type of performance and according to each one’s competence. It is to be noted that the president and the other jury members are key fifigures whose competences in fifields of dancing and music are publicly acknowledged : one for reo, one from conservatoire, leader(s) of Hura Tau Heiva /Hura tapairu or Best dancer of Heiva.
Article 9 : Missions
The jury is competent to :
- judge groups’ performances and to mark them in accordance with the scoring
sheets drawn up by HI2020. The jury is tied down to the upmost confifidentiality
regarding the marking of groups’ performances;
- ascertain breaches to the rules and guidelines;
- award prizes within the limits of the fifinancial envelope or gift set to that end;
- conduct meetings with leaders of groups in competition.
- Finally, the jury may put to Heiva International Team any propositions that may prove useful to the events’ quality and good progress.
OTWC 2020 - Tahiti
Dance group category
Category opened to dance group, school, association, …from everywhere : Tahiti, US, Japan, Mexico, Europe, .… we can open a dance group category, from 3 registration. Each represent one country, one region. and the winner can go to the world cup in 2020 in Tahiti.
Article 10 : Registration
Each group register with one form and pay the fee.
Article 11 : Limit of registration
Registration must be before January 2020 month of registration deadline to be in the offificial program.

‘otea, ‘aparima, ‘otea vava, haka, pata’u, pa’o’a, hivinau… min of 8 min for Ote’a, min of 8 min for
‘aparima (on the 30 min of show)

Each group can have a raatira and a ‘orero.
Article 13 : Numbers of dancers
Minimum : 30
Maximum : 60
Includes all artist on stage, from French Polynesia or/and for one foreign country. Numbers of actors (no dancing) is 10 maximum.
All the show must be new and in live. Exception can be accepted - please let know Matani KAINUKU, and the judges in advance.
Article 14 : Communication
Each group presents : one picture of the group, one of the leader, a brief presentation of the group and when possible, the record of its achievements (300 words, in French, in tahitian, in English for the MC.) in less than 300 dpi-high résolution. We will use those information to promote the event. Each group must present the nominative list of all members of the group entering the contest (fifirst and last names, gender, date and place of birth) and their position (musician, dancer, etc.) along with a valid copy of the ID of each group member.
Before : January 30th 2020
Article 15 : Costums
No restriction. Moré, material, plants (dry or fresh). All kind of accessories are permitted. Each group choose the costume he wants to express the theme selected.
Article 16 : Steps
No restrictions, all is about the theme selected for the show.
Article 17 : Length
Duration of the dance is a minimum of 18 minutes and a maximum of 30 minutes. All is included.
No selection time, the results will be announce at the end of the night of competition.
OTWC 2020 - Tahiti
Mehura category
Category opened to dance group, school, association, …from everywhere. We can open a dance school category and a professional dance group category, for 3 registration per category.

Each group register with one form and pay the fee.
Article 19 : Limit of registration
Registration must be before January 2020, month of registration deadline to be in the offificial program.

+ including 8 musicians/choir (choir dont play instruments) on stage, from French Polynesia or/and
for one foreign country.
No actors.
Music must be live to get a bonus of 10 points per judges, Music can be also on CD, no bonus.
All creation music and song must be held by the group.
Article 22 : Communication
Each group presents : one picture of the group, one of the leader, a brief presentation of the group and when possible, the record of its achievements (300 words, in French, in tahitian, in English for the MC.) in less than 300 dpi-high résolution. We will use those information to promote the event. OTWC 2020 - Tahiti
Soloist dancer category - Soloist world cup 18 years old and up.
Category opened to all dancers from a association from a group, from a school dance. Each soloist will represent one country.
Article 26 : Registration and fee
Each soloist register with one form and pay the fee, per category. When registration form is booked and fee paid, dancers can download the 5 musics of OTEA and 5 musics of APARIMA before the draw held on March 30th 2020.
Article 27 : Limit of registration
Limit of registration : April 1st 2020.
Article 28 : Types of dances
All dancers register for one OTEA and one APARIMA to express theme. Musics will be given by organizer. A draw is scheduled on Monday, March 30th, 2020 - each dancer will know exactly the theme of each category and can practice for the night of competition.
Article 29 : Program
Schedule of the dancers is done when all registration form are booked and listed, and the draw is done.
Article 30 : Communication
Each dancer presents : one picture, a brief presentation of the back ground record of its achievements (300 words, in French, in tahitian, in English for the MC.) in less than 300 dpi-high résolution. We will use those information to promote the event. A valid copy of the ID.

Article 31 : Costums
OTEA : COLOR OF PAREO/TOP AND TIHERE MUST BE WHITE COLOR
* vahine : white top and white pareo under the knees (no belt, no ‘i’i)
* Tane : white tihere, (no accessories at the knees, no ‘i’i)
Green leaves, green ferns, accessories must be green color (only natural/vegetal green color)
No flflower, no other color then Green of Vegetal of French Polynesia. No plastic..

OTWC 2020 - Tahiti
Soloist musician category
Category opened to all musicians of ‘ori tahiti, from one school, from one association, from one dance group. This is the competition to show and perform alone on stage one creativity music to express one theme. Musician will represent one country one region.

however be justifified by the show’s theme, is subject to the jury’s approval and organizer.
Article 36 : Number of contestant.
Only one musician on stage, that represent one country. No presence of actor or dancer on stage.
Article 37 : Communication
Each musician presents : one picture, a brief presentation of the back ground record of its achievements (300 words, in French, in tahitian, in English for the MC.) in less than 300 dpi-high résolution. We will use those information to promote the event. A valid copy of the ID.

INFORMATION IMPORTANTE
Article 40 : Penalties
A bailiff is appointed by Mr Matani KAINUKU. The former makes the calculation of points from the jury’s scoring sheets and ensures the enforcement of this rules and guidelines. In the case in point, the bailiff may enter into accounts penalties per jury member (10 points/jury on the total) ever since a jury member and/or himself/herself may ascertain a failure to comply with the rules and guidelines (duration, costumes, number of male/female dancers or musicians, etc.).
Article 41 : Calculation of points
A bailiff is appointed by Mr Matani KAINUKU. The former makes the calculation of points from the jury’s scoring sheets and ensures the enforcement of this rules and guidelines.
Each jury member is entitled to speak and to one vote. In case of contention, the president has a casting vote. The jury is sovereign and its decisions are irrevocable.
